Our team recently delivered a tailored material handling solution to a Tunisian client: a 5-ton self-propelled trolley designed specifically for transporting raw steel in their workshop.
The client first discovered our work through a YouTube case study featuring a Romanian stone industry client. Impressed by the efficiency of our trolley in streamlining on-site material movement, they reached out via WhatsApp to request a design quote for a similar system.
Initial client requirements specified a 5-ton transfer trolley measuring 6m in length and 2.5m in width. To help cut their ocean freight costs, we suggested optimizing the width to 2.2m—a change the client’s technical team approved after review.
A key challenge emerged during further discussions: the client’s workshop flooring was not standard concrete. One workshop had a steel rail floor, while some aisles used steel grating—making our conventional polyurethane wheels unsuitable.
Drawing on our experience with railroad track projects, we initially considered large-diameter rubber tread tires. For the steel grating, we consulted our wheel supplier, who confirmed that 450mm diameter rubber tires (with a wider tread to prevent sinking into grating hollows) would work.
The final solution: a 5 ton hydraulically steered trackless transfer vehicle, powered by a 48V 150AH high-quality Torch battery pack and equipped with two 1.0kW high-torque motors. Fully charged and loaded, it offers a range of 5-6km—more than enough to meet the client’s daily workshop transport needs.
The trolley has now completed manufacturing, passed strict quality inspections and commissioning, and been shipped successfully. We’re eager to see it deliver reliable, efficient steel transport for the client’s operations.
